CHS can use your help. Put in a little time or a lot – it all adds up to make life better for companion animals and people in Calaveras County.
We hold orientations for new volunteers once or twice a year, depending on our needs. Info on our next orientation is below.
Our volunteers provide the “quality” time for the pets in our care. We do the cleaning, feeding, medication, etc. You do the cuddling, snuggling, ball-throwing, trick training, and fun!
Volunteers must be:
– 18 years old or older
– Able to work independently and follow both verbal and written instructions
– In reasonably good health, without allergies to animals (or allergies well-controlled by medication)
Our next orientation is Saturday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m. You must reserve your spot by sending us an email. Be sure to include your name and phone number. Orientation will take about 90 minutes total.
We do not accept volunteers who need court-ordered community service hours.
Seeking office volunteers for answering phones, light computer work, and greeting visitors at our Angels Camp adoption center.
Shifts available: Wednesdays from 2-5, Fridays from 11-2 or 2-5, or Saturdays from 2-5. Weekly commitment to one shift required.
Work alongside our staff in a sometimes fast-paced but very upbeat environment!
One of the key elements of our adoption and placement program for pets is the foster program. This program gives homeless pets a safe haven and loving care while we search for the best permanent home for each one.
Volunteers are given direction and support from the Calaveras Humane Society foster leaders. Food, crates if needed, and medical care are paid for by the Humane Society. In return, foster families agree to follow the program guidelines in caring for and helping to place the animal.

Volunteers care for pets awaiting adoption who have special needs, for instance, kittens too young to be adopted or pets recovering from an illness or injury.

Volunteers observe the personalities and needs of the pets in their care to help us place them in the most suitable homes
