It is with sadness that the Calaveras Humane Society announces the passing of its first and hardest-working “ambassaDOG,” Marlee the pug.
For the last four years, Marlee was a fixture at the organization, enthusiastically greeting visitors first to our San Andreas office and then to our Angels Camp adoption center once it opened in 2019. She also filled in as our chief photographic representative, accepting awards on our behalf and posing with community leaders and influencers.
Marlee’s career began at the
Sacramento SPCA, where she was adopted in 2006. She worked there as the official Humane Education Program dog for six years, participating in presentations for thousands of elementary school students and community groups to illustrate the basics of dog safety and fighting pet overpopulation.
Marlee’s presence at our headquarters will be sorely missed.
Her heir apparent, Finnegan the rescued Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is indifferent to the big pawprints he’s being asked to fill and wishes to make it known that he will offer greetings only to those who come bearing treats.
