Piglet

Introducing Piglet! (Available beginning 11/7.)

Piglet was transferred into our care from another shelter with “puppy strangles.” Puppy strangles, or juvenile cellulitis, is a skin condition that primarily affects young puppies. It is characterized by swollen, inflamed lymph nodes and painful skin lesions. It is not contagious to other pets or to people.

With prompt and dedicated treatment, puppy strangles can usually be cured and will not recur. Without treatment, puppies can die.

Piglet immediately went into one of our dedicated volunteer foster homes and began many weeks of steroids, antibiotics, regular rechecks, and other care.

Just look at him now! Piglet has regrown (or is beginning to regrow) hair everywhere. His lesions are gone, he’s completely comfortable, and this issue is not behind him and will not recur.

We are NOT the kind of shelter that shares gory or upsetting pictures of animals in pain, and never on social media where you might see it without warning. You deserve to make that choice for yourself. However, we’ve created a private page on our website for anyone who’d like to see the images of Piglet during his healing journey.

Piglet is now 16 weeks old. He appears to be a poodle/somethin’ mix and is non-shedding. He’s very petite at just 7 pounds currently, which suggests an adult weight around 22. He is playful and sweet, and enjoys other dogs. He’d be a lovely addition to a wide variety of home environments.
