Halo absolutely deserves her name (she came to us with it) because she is indeed an angel.
This darling Golden Retriever girl has had a rough road. Halo was born with a missing left front leg. In its place he has a small nub, with a toe pad and single nail. She was having difficulty getting around when she arrived in our care because she had been allowed to become extremely overweight.
At some point in her life Halo was trained and placed as an assistance dog for a veteran through a local (now-defunct) service dog program. We’re not sure how she found herself without a home, but we were delighted to take her in once we saw her amazing personality. We placed Halo into a volunteer foster home for weight loss boot camp (she has dropped quite a few pounds and her new family will need to be vigilant about not overfeeding her). We also got her started on medication to treat the arthritis pain that likely arose from being a tripawd (three-legged) pup.
Halo is now on a monthly injectable medication for pain. Her foster home said the difference in her after her first shot was remarkable — she became active and curious and wiggly and has remained so ever since. The cost for Halo’s monthly injection is about $100-$120. Her adopters will need to be able to keep her on this, as well as give her a joint/hip supplement (we have a nice supply to send home with her).
What’s Halo like? In a word, she is MAGNIFICENT. She loves everyone, and is phenomenal with cats, kiddos, and other dogs. She’s eight years old and will make a fantastic companion for some lucky person or family.
