2023 was a wonderful whirlwind for us! We are deeply grateful for the generous support of our donors, whose gifts allowed us to accomplish so much.
Here are just a few highlights from the year:
• We placed hundreds of dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in need in our immediate area into loving new homes.
About 73% of our dogs and puppies were transfers to us this year from overcrowded municipal shelters in both Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. We also placed 28% of the adoptable cats and kittens from Calaveras County Animal Services.
• We distributed more than 24,000 pounds of dry dog and cat food (plus cans!) to Calaveras families experiencing food insecurity, enabling their beloved pets to stay in their homes.
The food we provide is 100% provided by donors, both from local businesses and individuals. We do not spend, and have never spent, our funds on purchasing food for our Pet Food Bank.
• We assisted dozens of low-income senior citizens with an unexpected or pre-planned veterinary expense.
• We issued hundreds of spay/neuter assistance vouchers to low-income Calaveras residents, providing them with a discount on their pet’s surgery that participating veterinary hospitals then bill us for.
Happy New Year from the Calaveras Humane Society!
