Reptile Rescue In The Mother Lode

While the Calaveras Humane Society team was meeting in our offices with the head of Milo’s Misfits Reptile Rescue Tuesday, a good Samaritan brought in a native pond turtle that she saved from certain death on a busy street.

Our first reptile rescue! We promptly named it “Shelldon,” then handed the critter off directly to Milo’s Misfits for assessment and release back into the wild — further from a roadway this time.

  • Note: Your Calaveras Humane Society is not in the business of wildlife rescue, so please don’t bring us injured wild critters. A far better resource for your deer, jackrabbit, squirrel, raccoon and wild bird needs is our friends at Tri County Wildlife Care. This was just a solitary case of impeccable timing.
