Starling

Beautiful brown merle girl Starling was the victim of an illegal home-done ear crop job in her past life. Then, to add even more insult, the crude stitches were left in for many weeks (possibly months) before she arrived at the transferring shelter, where they were finally removed.

Starling was extremely shy and had shut down, completely overwhelmed by her life and surroundings. When we took her in, she slept for four days straight, waking only to eat and potty, as she recovered emotionally.

After several weeks of TLC, Starling is a new dog. She is gentle and unbelievably sweet. She adores people and other dogs. Her most recent BFF was the tiny chi mix, Jujubee, who was adopted last week. The two would gently wrestle and play and it was a joy to behold. Starling has been spending her days in one of our offices, cohabitating with resident cat Bubba without batting an eye.

Our kindergarten “dog tester,” Bodie, gives her five stars. Starling loves kiddos and is very soft with them.

One of our staffers created this adorable hat for Starling to give her back the ears she lost.

She is 70 pounds at 10 months old, and will continue to fill out a bit as she matures.
