Oo la la! Thank you to Bonne et Filou, bakers of all-natural macarons for dogs, for sending us five boxes of their goodies for our shelter pups. They’re so pretty and smell so good that we want to gobble them up ourselves!

Just-adopted dog Norman was the first to sample one (he chose lavender), and oui, he loved it.

Merci, Bonne et Filou! ❤🐾

Many thanks to Snowshoe Brewing Company for holding a food drive for our Pet Food Bank! Bring a bag of dog or cat food when you’re picking up your takeout order to help pets in need in your community.

Participation in our food assistance program is at a record high, and we truly appreciate the help. Thank you, Snowshoe folks! ❤️🐾

Many thanks to Tractor Supply Co. in Angels Camp for their donation today of dog food and a spiffy new crate!

From the bottom of our hearts, we’d like to thank everyone who donated so generously during our Giving Tuesday fundraiser. We know this is a most unusual year for all of us, and we appreciate that you care enough about pets in need to give so selflessly.

Our community continues to amaze us, and we are very grateful. On behalf of the animals, we thank you. ❤️🐾

While working the front lines at the Creek Fire, Calaveras Consolidated Firefighters provided several stray dogs with some much-needed water.

Firefighters do more than fight fire. They help and care for animals in fire impacted areas.

Many thanks to part-time Dorrington resident Sharon, who brought in a batch of 50 beautiful handmade blankets for our kitties and pups. “I got tired of making face masks and needed a change,” she says.

Our animals are going to absolutely love these — thank you, Sharon! ❤️🐾

Our most heartfelt thanks to everyone who responded so generously to our recent request for food for our Pet Food Bank program! It took four trips to the post office to pick up all the boxes, and we are delighted that we appear to be good and set for a while now.

Our Pet Food Bank has seen a dramatic increase in enrollment since the start of the COVID situation. We rely on compassionate folks like you to keep us stocked up with food so we can ensure there are no hungry pets in Calaveras. THANK YOU for giving! ❤️🐾

We’re delighted to announce that our Calaveras Humane Society Thrift Store is the winner of the Ledger Dispatch Best of Calaveras award for Best Consignment/Thrift Store. Thank you to everyone who voted! Our thrift store staff works hard to maintain an inviting shopping environment with high-quality merchandise. If you’ve never stopped by before, put it on your to-do list. We’re worth a visit! ❤️🐾

Rescued Lab/Border Collie mix and Angels Camp resident Mocha stopped by today with an absolutely lovely assortment of donations for her animal friends at the Calaveras Humane Society: pet food, kitten formula, Greenies, and more!

Thank you, Mocha (and mom and dad Irene and Elwood) for your kindness. ❤️🐾

We did it, thanks to you! Your generous donations on Facebook and via our website raised enough funds to completely pay for foster puppy Bree’s liver shunt surgery at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine on July 29. Woo hoo!

Having our entire annual “special needs” medical budget eaten up by one charming puppy was a definite cause for concern. But because this expense is now covered in full, we will be able to welcome the next homeless pets with treatable but potentially costly medical conditions with open arms.

You might not be aware that 10-20% of the animals we take in need special veterinary care beyond spay/neuter surgery and routine vaccinations. Our most common expense is dentals for middle-aged and senior pets.

THANK YOU to everyone who gave from the heart. We’ll keep you posted on Bree’s progress and will let you know next week how her surgery went. ❤️🐾

Big shout out and huge appreciation to our friends at Jackson Creek Veterinary Clinic and Blue Oak Veterinary Hospital for spaying and neutering THIRTY-FOUR (34!) of our shelter animals in the last nine days alone!

These superstars helped us break through our post-COVID logjam, and we are now up-to-date and good to go. Many, many thanks, guys! ❤️🐾

We absolutely ❤️ the Women of the Moose (Ebbetts Pass), who brought us 50 more amazing handmade fleece blankets to keep our dogs and cats snug and secure. We like to send each adopted pet home with his/her favorite blankie, so they’ll have something familiar in a new environment. As you can see, CHS ambassaDOG Marlee wholeheartedly approves of this very generous gift.

Thank you, Women of the Moose, for your kindness and hard work! ❤️🐾

Many, many thanks to the Calaveras Community Foundation for once again awarding us a major grant to continue our Senior Veterinary Assistance program. We are honored to have received this grant for four years running.

Through the program, low-income seniors (65+) living in Calaveras County may apply for one-time help paying some or all of their pet’s veterinary bill. The assistance may be used for either emergencies or routine preventive care like vaccines and dentals.

We already know that seniors are among the most caring of pet guardians, and we’re thrilled to be able to help their pets get the care they deserve. Thank you, Calaveras Community Foundation, for making this possible! ❤️🐾

We can’t begin to express how honored and grateful we are to everyone who donated yesterday to our #GivingTuesdayNow fundraiser. Your compassion and generosity resulted in just over $7,750 in contributions, our biggest Giving Tuesday event ever.

We are deeply appreciative that, in this time of financial unpredictability for many, you so selflessly chose to support us. Thank you for helping to take a bite out of the COVID-19 cloud we’ve been under.

We can’t wait to welcome you back to our adoption center and our Calaveras Humane Society Thrift Store in the future. Until then, we’ll be beginning some socially distanced, contact-free adoptions of kittens in the coming weeks. Watch for posts here and information on making an adoption appointment if the kitty of your dreams catches your eye. And we’ll see you at our Drive-Thru Pet Food Bank event this Saturday!

THANK YOU, everyone! ❤️🐾

Our most sincere thanks to everyone who donated to our Itty Bitty Kitty Formula Drive over the last two weeks! The Amazon Fairies (our UPS guy says he doesn’t mind when we call him that) delivered box after box of formula, bottles, Miracle Nipples, and more — including one of the stuffed cats with a heartbeat that we’ve always, always wanted to use to soothe an orphaned litter!

We’re overwhelmed by your generosity and are feeling 100% ready for the start of kitten season. We promise to thank you with many adorable photos of the little buggers as they come into our care.

Still want to give? It’s NEVER too late, as our itty bitty kitties gobble up endless amounts of formula:

Many thanks to Angels Camp resident Richard Hurkman, who stopped by today to donate two enormous bags of new and gently used toys in memory of his beloved dog.

Our ambassa-DOG, Marlee, is inspecting for quality control (and the whole lot met with her resounding approval). ♥️🐾

Four paws way up to Tractor Supply Co. in Angels Camp for their incredibly generous donation Wednesday.

Store manager Ridvan Arsian, pictured here, delivered multiple pallets of food for our Pet Food Bank. We’re just delighted when local businesses care about pets in need in our community! ♥️🐾

We’re incredibly proud of our team! Friday night we accepted the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce award for 2020 Non-Profit of the Year. We’ve worked hard to make our organization the best it can possibly be, and this kind of recognition feels amazing.
