AVAILABLE SATURDAY 4/19.
Tootsie Roll came our way when one of our transfer partners took in 60+ dogs from one household in a hoarding case.
She will be available for adoption on Saturday, 4/19.
TOOTSIE ROLL (black and tan, female, 9 pounds, age ~3, possibly a spaniel/chihuahua mix): Tootsie is the most outgoing of the group. She’ll be your BFF the moment she meets you. Tootsie gets along fine with the other dogs she arrived with, but has been a little choosy when meeting new ones. She’s fine with our cat, Bubba. Tootsie loves a lap and bonds easily to new people. She might do best as the only dog in the household, but it will really depend on your dog(s). While being spayed Wednesday, Tootsie had surgery to fix a condition known as “cherry eye” (a prolapse of the third eye gland). Her adopter will be sent home with eye drops to give during her recovery, and she will need to wear an e-collar (cone) for a while longer.
It’s important to be aware that dogs from hoarding situations can come with a bit of emotional baggage. While none of the dogs from this case appears to have been physically abused or neglected, and all were of fairly good weight, living in one home with 60+ dogs and only a couple humans means that they didn’t have an opportunity to receive one-on-one attention. They are not housetrained and their adopters will need to start that process from scratch. They do not show any interest in toys. They have never walked on a leash and will need to be taught if you’re not planning to carry them on all outings (vet appointments, etc.).
That said, we believe these girls will make truly excellent pets and wonderful companions to their new people.
