Incredible news! Since debuting our super-duper spay/neuter assistance vouchers in August, 521 pets of low-income households in Calaveras County have been fixed at little to no cost to their owners.
The vouchers, available both from us and from Calaveras County Animal Services, are made possible by a joint grant our two groups received. The UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program was tasked with disbursing funding from money governor Gavin Newsom designated to support the state’s animal shelters, and they selected us for this project based on our proposal.
Calaveras County lags behind much of the rest of California in the rate of spay/neuter among pets. It is our hope that this grant program will enable enough pets to have surgery that we will see an appreciable decrease in requests to surrender dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in the coming years.
We are now at the halfway mark! Our goal is to have 1,000 Calaveras pets spayed and neutered. We are at 521, with exactly half the funds remaining.
Complete information about how the program works can be found here.
If you are a Calaveras resident and need help to get your pet fixed, don’t delay! Once the money is gone, it’s gone.
